Korean laywoman who kept the faith in the persecution of 1846 and was martyred on September 20, 1846.
Life
Catherine Chong Chol-yom was born in 1817. A lay Catholic, she lived out her faith together with fellow believers.
Arrested in the Byeong-o persecution of 1846, she suffered cruel torture in prison but never renounced her faith.
She was martyred in prison together with other believers on September 20, 1846.
Spirituality
Catherine Chong Chol-yom's spirituality is a faith that walks together. She shared her suffering with the believers martyred on the same day, and their faith held one another up. Because it was a faith kept within a community and not alone, it was all the stronger. The Church is a gathering of people who walk leaning on one another.
Reflection
Catherine Chong Chol-yom walked her last road together with fellow believers. Who walks with me on my journey of faith? Why not thank them this week?
