Korean laywoman who kept the faith in the persecution of 1839 and was martyred in September 1839.
Life
Catherine Yi was born in 1783 and was a widow. She lived the faith together with her daughter, Magdalena Cho, the two encouraging one another, and even in difficult circumstances she put the service of God first.
Arrested together with her daughter in the Gihae persecution of 1839, she kept her faith through interrogation and torture. Enduring the hardships of prison, she died there in September 1839 together with her daughter, as a martyr.
Spirituality
Catherine Yi's spirituality is the love of a family that shares its faith. She prayed with her daughter, endured hardship with her, and walked with her to the very end. Her life shows how faith is handed on and grows within the home.
Reflection
Catherine Yi walked the road of faith with her daughter to the end. Does our family have a time to pray together? Tonight, why not offer one short prayer together as a family?
