A priest from Brittany, he preached popular missions in the villages of western France. He taught total consecration to Jesus through Mary and founded the Montfort Missionaries and the Daughters of Wisdom.
Life
Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort was born in 1673 in Montfort in Brittany, France. Ordained in 1700, he cared for the poor and the sick and preached missions in towns and villages across western France.
His fiery preaching led many to conversion, though his methods sometimes met with misunderstanding and opposition. He wrote True Devotion to Mary, teaching the way "to Jesus through Mary," and founded the Company of Mary and the Daughters of Wisdom. He died in 1716 and was canonized in 1947.
Spirituality
Montfort's spirituality is total consecration to Jesus through Mary. He taught that entrusting oneself to Our Lady is the surest way to be united more deeply with Christ, a teaching that later shaped the spiritual lives of many.
Reflection
Saint Louis de Montfort taught us to go to Jesus holding Mary's hand. Why not pray a decade of the Rosary today and entrust my life to her?
