Pancras was a boy who received baptism in Rome at a young age. During the persecution of Diocletian he held fast to his faith and was martyred at about fourteen, becoming a model for the young.
Life
Pancras is remembered as a boy martyred in Rome during Emperor Diocletian's persecution in the early fourth century. According to tradition, he came from Phrygia in Asia Minor, came to Rome with a relative after losing his parents, became a Christian, and was beheaded at about fourteen.
The details of his life are later tradition, but he was buried on the Via Aurelia in Rome, a church was built over his tomb, and he was venerated from early times. Devotion to him spread to many lands, including England.
Spirituality
Pancras' spirituality is firm faith at a young age. In the story handed down, he did not deny Christ before a persecution that frightened even adults. He shows that the courage of faith does not depend on age.
Reflection
Saint Pancras was only a boy, yet he became a witness of faith. How can I encourage and support the young people of my parish to grow in faith?
