Korean layman who kept the faith in the persecution of 1866 and was martyred on December 13, 1866.
Life
Peter Chong Won-ji was born in 1846. He was a young lay farmer in Jeolla Province.
Arrested in the Byeong-in persecution of 1866 and taken to Jeonju, he endured torture and kept the faith though he was only about twenty.
On December 13, 1866, Peter Son Son-ji, Joseph Han Jae-gwon, Bartholomew Chong Mun-ho, Peter Cho Hwa-so, Peter Yi Myong-so and Peter Chong Won-ji were beheaded together at Supjeongi in Jeonju.
Spirituality
Peter Chong Won-ji's spirituality is the purity of a young faith. Before his life had fully unfolded he gave God what was most precious, making the same confession side by side with older believers. His youth was a pure offering to God.
Reflection
Peter Chong Won-ji confessed his faith when he was only about twenty. Why not pray today for the young people of our community, that they may grow in faith, and go up to them first with a friendly word?
