Korean laywoman who kept the faith in the persecution of 1839 and was martyred on July 20, 1839.
Life
Rosa Kim was born in 1784. She was a laywoman who lived as a widow after losing her husband and continued to practice her faith.
Arrested in the persecution of 1839, she was interrogated and punished many times but kept the faith. On July 20, 1839, she was beheaded outside the Small West Gate together with seven other believers, including John Baptist Yi Kwang-nyol.
Spirituality
The spirituality of Rosa Kim is a faith that stays with others to the end. Even after she was left alone, she kept her bond of faith with fellow believers, and she walked her final road with them. The faith kept within the community gave her strength.
Reflection
Rosa Kim walked her final road together with her fellow believers. Am I walking alongside the lonely members of my parish community? This Sunday, could I be the first to greet someone sitting alone?
