Korean laywoman who kept the faith in the persecution of 1839 and was martyred on July 20, 1839.
Life
Teresa Yi Mae-im was born in 1788. After embracing the faith she lived it fervently, sharing her faith life with close believers including her relative, Magdalena Yi Yong-hui.
Moved by news that children arrested in the persecution had kept the faith, she gave herself up to the authorities as a Catholic on April 11, 1839, and kept the faith through severe torture. On July 20, 1839, she was beheaded outside the Small West Gate together with Magdalena Yi Yong-hui and other believers.
Spirituality
The spirituality of Teresa Yi Mae-im is a faith in which believers hold each other up. Walking the path of faith with her relatives and companions, they strengthened one another. She shows that trials too hard to bear alone can be overcome together.
Reflection
Teresa Yi Mae-im kept the faith together with those close to her. Who walks the road of faith beside me? Today, could I thank that person and ask them to pray with me?
